 About Me

My name is Izell Marie Rodriguez and I was born and raised in Riverside, Ca. I have been fortunate enough to fulfill my dream of being the first in my family to attend college and I will be graduating in June of 2013 with a Bachelors of  Science with a concentration in Nutrition and Food Science.  In a few months, with a degree in Nutrition and Food science, my goal is to become a Registered Dietitian. Having been exposed to healthy and non healthy ways of living I feel it is only just that I share the knowledge I have with those who need and are wanting to create a better life for themselves and those that they love.

Why I chose this career path:

I decided I wanted to be a Registered Dietitian not too long ago. Like many undergraduates, I changed my major, from a Bachelors in Communication with a concentration in film to a Bachelors of Science with a concentration in Nutrition and Food Science. Although, my choices of careers were in two opposite directions I feel that my major in communication did prepare me for many of the activities I've done in the nutrition program. When I realized that I no longer wanted to pursue my communications major I had recently been exposed to a small taste of nutrition in a general education Kinesiology course, and right away I though to myself, " I want to do that!" My entire life I was exposed to different lifestyles and how nutrition affected our daily lives. Coming from a family that had a history of obesity, diabetes, asthma, and other illnesses, I learned at a young age that nutrition can impact how much at risk I could be at inheriting those illness. That moment in class, all the things I had learned throughout the years came to me and it was finally clear that, being a Registered Dietitian is what I want and can do.

My goals:

• As, a registered Dietitian, my goal is to help those individuals who are seeking manners to create a better quality of life no matter the situation they are in.
• I would like my practice to be in both Community and the Clinical aspects of dietetics.
•  I would like to purse my CDE certification, along with quite a few other certifications once I become exposed to the different rotations.
•  From the experience of my family members and their struggles with diabetes, obesity and other illnesses, I would also like to focus on Weight loss management.

Fun Facts:

• I am a huge animal lover!
• I enjoy drawing, and doing arts and crafts.
